**Position Information**:
Karonga School is a K-12 school for specific purposes located in Epping, North West Metropolitan Sydney. Karonga has an enrolment of 78 students, 4 of whom identify as of Aboriginal heritage, and with 75% of those students from a non-English speaking background. The school caters for students with moderate to severe intellectual disability including physical disability, challenging behaviours, autism and complex healthcare needs.

The programs have a strong focus on communication, and life-readiness. Positive Behaviour for Learning supports quality teaching practice. The school also supports the work of the Pennant Parade Tutorial Centre with a focus on re-engagement.

Karonga works in collaboration with the P & C and wider parent community to drive personalised learning programs and whole school initiatives.

There is a strong focus on collegial team approaches with particular reference to student welfare and wellbeing.

**Selection Criteria**:
In addition to the general selection criteria:
Approval to teach special education and/ or experience teaching students with a moderate or severe intellectual disability, autism, physical disability and complex needs.

Highly developed interpersonal skills with a demonstrated capacity to effectively mentor, guide and inspire teachers with a range of experience.

Demonstrated ability to integrate technologies into effective teaching / learning practice, both in and beyond the classroom.

Demonstrated capacity to lead the implementation of innovative programs with a focus on communication, life-skills and positive behaviour to ensure outstanding outcomes and opportunities for the full spectrum of diverse student needs.

High level organisational skills and demonstrated ability to balance classroom teaching and the complex role of an Assistant Principal within a dynamic school team.

**General Selection Criteria**:
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies
