Assistant Director, El1, Competition Division
2 weeks ago
**Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch**
The Competition Division has primary responsibility for ACCC compliance and enforcement in relation to all anticompetitive conduct. The Competition Enforcement and Financial Services branch conducts investigations into anti-competitive conduct and takes enforcement action, with a focus on the financial services sector. It also has an ongoing program of championing competition in financial services, including conducting market studies and a range of advocacy work.
**Role and Duties**
We are recruiting for Assistant Directors within the Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch, in
- the Competition Enforcement Investigations team, and
- the Financial Services Competition team.
Under the supervision of a Director, and as part of a multidisciplinary team, Assistant Directors are responsible for conducting competition investigations and analysis including:
- investigating potential breaches of the competition provisions of the _Competition and Consumer Act 2010_;
- conducting market studies in the financial services sector, and/or related research, advocacy and policy work.
The skills required for these roles are largely overlapping. Under the supervision of a Director, and as a part of a multidisciplinary team, Assistant Directors are primarily responsible for managing investigations and enforcement processes (including litigation) and/or managing market studies and policy/advocacy projects.
You will need to work flexibly to plan, manage, organise, and prioritise a range of tasks to meet deadlines. The ability to lead and work as part of a team is crucial.
Depending on the specific role, as an Assistant Director, under the supervision of your Director, your work will involve:
- investigating, researching, analysing and evaluating possible contraventions of the _Competition and Consumer Act 2010_
- overseeing and conducting competition analysis as part of the completion of market studies and related advocacy and policy work
- managing a team of investigators, legal advisers, economists, analysts and other specialists responsible for providing management, strategic and technical input into competition cases and matters allocated;
- conducting interviews with complainants, market participants and witnesses;
- collecting, collating and analysing information from disparate sources, and exercising judgement to identify the best sources of such information;
- undertaking or supervising research and analysis into specific industry sectors in the financial services sector to assess competitive or consumer welfare effects of particular conduct;
- drafting legal documents including statutory notices and court enforceable undertakings;
- liaising with internal and external stakeholders (such as legal advisers, other regulators in the financial services sector, and industry associations);
- preparing high quality written reports and recommendations for consideration by senior management;
- supervising and developing staff and taking a leadership role within the Competition Enforcement and Financial Services Branch and the Competition Division.
**How to apply**
When preparing your statement of claims, please take into consideration the role and duties, and detail instances from your past that demonstrate how you meet the selection criteria.
**Salary**: $111,251 - $123,121 per annum (plus 15.4% superannuation)
**Contact Officer**:
Stewart McKechnie (03) 9290 1947 (for Investigations)
