**Your role**
In the broad sense this role sits in the People Branch within DCJ Corporate Services and is responsible for providing strategic direction and operational excellence in relation to all things Safety across DCJ. The role relies on partnering across divisions and safety structures to support compliance to the WHS Act and related legislation.
More specifically this role is about the prevention of workplace injuries, promoting and supporting employee welfare, and guiding management in meeting their legislative requirements. This will be done through:
- Providing expertise in policies, processes, and legislation
- Managing external stakeholders
- Leveraging off internal resources and stakeholders
- Understanding the businesses we support
- Providing evidence based recommendations
Reporting to the Director, Workers Compensation, Safety & Wellbeing and managing a team to deliver strategic guidance to improve the psychological and physical safety of DCJ employees. Our focus is to improve employee experience and engagement, build leadership capability, develop and deliver people programs and support in the management of complex safety matters.
**What you’ll do**
We are looking for an individual who is a safety specialist with an influential and client centric approach and demonstrated ability to:
- Develop and implement strategies which promote a safety culture across DCJ divisions with a particular emphasis on Psychosocial wellbeing.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior leaders to influence, negotiate and deliver consistent, professional and contemporary advice/ services in a high volume, fast paced environment.
- Coordinate and facilitate timely and expert advice to all levels of management to ensure them and their staff are fully informed and understand their accountabilities under WHS regulatory policy and legislation and governance controls.
- Research and investigate contemporary Safety & Wellbeing issues and have your advice be guided by facts, policies, legislation, and what is right for the business & its employees.
- Undertake regular Safety & Wellbeing audits and investigations and develop and monitor subsequent action plans to address identified risks and deficiencies.
- Provide reporting to the executive, regulators and businesses as required.
**What we’re looking for**
- A comprehensive understanding of the NSW work health and safety legislation and practises
- Extensive knowledge working in large organisations with diverse needs and risks.
- A demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
Essential requirements include:
- Thorough knowledge of the WHS Act 2011 and associated regulations. Demonstrated experience managing a central team with agile working.
