Specifically, we’re looking for a Lead Dental Assistant that has completed a nationally recognised Dental Assisting course at a Certificate Level IV. Someone with extensive experience as a dental assistant across a range of dental specialities and settings with an understanding of contemporary issues and priorities in the field of dental assisting within the public oral health system. Here at Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network, The Lead Dental Assistant is responsible for supporting dental assistants and clinical services within the Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (the Network) Oral Health Service. This includes supervision of dental assistants, management of stores, equipment and the maintenance essential to providing high standard of oral health care to patients in New South Wales (NSW) correctional centres, Youth Justice Centres and the Forensic Hospital. This position supports the provision and coordination of teledentistry and mobile dental unit services and is required to visit several sites across metropolitan and regional areas on NSW. The Lead Dental Assistant will work within Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JH&FMHN) and Ministry of Health policies, procedures and guidelines as well as Corrective Services NSW or Juvenile Justice NSW rules and regulations as set out in the relevant legislation.

- Completion of a nationally recognised Dental Assisting course at a Certificate Level IV.
- Extensive experience as a dental assistant across a range of dental specialities and settings with an understanding of contemporary issues and priorities in the field of dental assisting within the public oral health system.
- Proven experience in the coordination and delivery of dental services, demonstrating an ability to prioritise competing tasks and responsibilities
- Extensive knowledge in infection control and sterilisation procedures.
- Demonstrated administrative and organisation skills in managing the operational aspects of dental clinics.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently or within a multidisciplinary team, providing leadership and mentoring to dental assistants
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of individual including patients, the multidisciplinary team and external service providers.
- Class C driver licence with the ability and willingness to travel for work purposes.
