**About ARWA**:
The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA) is leading the responsible management and safe storage and disposal of Australia’s radioactive waste. A key element of ARWA’s program is the delivery of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility which will provide a purpose-built, engineered solution to manage radioactive waste from sources such as nuclear medicine production.

- Technical experience in the field of radiation safety and/or health physics surveying, together with experience in the development of safety management frameworks, policies, procedures, plans and arrangements.
- Experience in nuclear facility safety management criteria, regulations, and expectations, developing safety cases, and dealing with regulators.
- Experience with various methods/tools/approaches to undertake safety risk assessments and making risk-informed decisions.
- An understanding of the safety case discipline related regulatory submission processes and the requirements to meet international best practice and obtain regulatory approval.
- An ability to work closely with engineering, design and operational teams, and to understand and influence safety driven design and operational processes.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills that foster trust and cooperation, and a proven ability to work effectively and with integrity within a politically sensitive and fluid environment.
- Experience in, or a sound understanding of, the radioactive waste management industry.
- Sound understanding of Commonwealth Government processes.
**Qualifications**:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering and/or similar Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and/or equivalent industry experience.
**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must:
- Be an Australian citizen or going to be granted Australian Citizenship before commencement. You may be asked to provide evidence of this.
- Undertake a pre-employment security assessment and subsequent security clearance. All staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance however some roles will require a higher-level security clearance. If you are offered a role and do not have a current security clearance, we will work with you to arrange for this to be undertaken.
