- About The PositionThis newly created role, funded through a federal initiative, is designed to advance accessibility and inclusion across RMIT’s College of Design and Social Context and College of Vocational Education. As the Accessibility Lead, you will collaborate with Student Equity and key College stakeholders to assess and prioritise accessibility needs, identify barriers, and implement targeted actions that foster inclusion and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The role will advance equitable education practices by providing expert advice, building staff capability, and supporting the implementation of sustainable, scalable strategies that improve learning experiences for students with disabilities, mental health conditions, chronic illnesses, and other access barriers. Working closely with the Accessibility Coordinator and other Accessibility Leads, Equitable Learning Advisors, and central support services, this position will embed an accessibility lens within College systems and culture, contributing to student retention and success. You will also help develop training, resources, and cross-institutional collaboration initiatives, providing high-level systemic support for complex cases.
- Qualifications: _A degree in education, disability, psychology, social work, or a related field._
- To be successful in this position, you’ll have:
- 1. Experience: Proven experience in supporting people with diverse needs, preferably in higher education and/or vocational education settings.
- 2. Collaboration Skills: Ability to work collaboratively within and across Colleges, fostering partnerships with central student service teams.
- 3. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
- 4. Problem-Solving, Adaptability, and Autonomy: Demonstrated ability to identify challenges and develop innovative, context-responsive solutions within an educational setting, while working autonomously and adapting effectively to changing priorities.
5. Project Coordination: Experience in coordinating and implementing initiatives that support strategic goals.
6. Empathy and Student-Centred Focus: Commitment to understanding and addressing the unique needs and circumstances of diverse student populations.
About the Group
Students Group
This role sits within the Equity team in RMIT Students Group. The Students group shapes, designs and delivers key student services and experiences to prepare RMIT students for study, life and the global workforce. We work in partnership with students, academics, professional staff, industry and the community to deliver transformative student experiences that improve access, participation, retention and success for all RMIT students.
