Set in beautiful heritage gardens and grounds on the doorstep of the Melbourne CBD, Ormond College is the largest residential College at the University of Melbourne. Home to around 370 undergraduates, 50 graduate resident students and 80 non-resident students, Ormond is committed to providing an outstanding residential and learning experience through its core values of respect, community, learning, integrity, diversity and heritage. We inspire and challenge students’ thoughts and beliefs, preparing them to be active citizens in their life after College, and to make a positive contribution in their local and global communities.
Overseeing the College’s ‘Community’ portfolio, the College Dean and Vice-Master is the deputy to the Master and plays a vital role in the development of the College’s strategic plan and vision, as well as being responsible for delivering a holistic and transformational experience for all students. As an academic leader of our community, the College Dean encourages a challenging atmosphere full of powerful and rich dialogue amongst students, staff and our network of alumni. They foster a culture of curiosity, personal excellence and contribution, and support students with wellbeing and professional development initiatives to help them succeed at University and beyond.
The next College Dean will possess outstanding judgement and diplomacy, have a warm, engaging and approachable manner, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and a demonstrable commitment to, and desire to influence, an outstanding experience for members of the College. They will be passionate about nurturing student leadership and have deep experience in coaching and mentoring young people to play active leadership roles within their communities. Their significant involvement in the student community and commitment to the College will develop relationships of trust and mutual respect.
- The College Dean is a full time role, living on site in self-contained accommodation provided by the College. The Dean will attend College functions including Formal Hall twice a week and a number of significant events on the College Calendar that will occur in the evenings and on weekends. The College Dean will share on-call duties outside of business hours with three other senior residential staff._
