**Yenmalibylia at SSI: SSI's First Nations Staff Network**
Our First Nations Staff Network Yenmalibylia (“Lets Walk Together” from the Dharug Language) is a space for our First Nations Staff to come together and support each other in a culturally safe and appropriate way. It is also a platform for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff to share their views and discuss the issues that affect them in the workplace with each other and our leaders. Your invaluable insights and experiences help inform the development of solutions and helps maintain a voice that is heard and an identity within our organisation

As a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) at SSI, you will be the heartbeat of the NDIA in your local community, working with people with disability and their families to access and navigate the National Disability Insurance Scheme. **About You**
We are looking an Aboriginal Local Area Coordinators to join our team based in Ashfield or Bankstown. This is your opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of the Aboriginal community in the disability sector. This is an identified Aboriginal position under Section 9A of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Exemption is claimed under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Applicants must identify, be known, and accepted by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community. Demonstrated knowledge on Aboriginal Affairs that effect Aboriginal people today, and how does that knowledge shape the cultural approach for the LAC.
**Essential Criteria**
- You possess proven interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and liaise across all levels both internally, externally and with people from diverse backgrounds including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities. You have demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision, manage a variety of tasks and display personal drive and integrity.
- All LAC Planners need to have the willingness to travel and work flexible hours and in a range of locations across areas and regions as required.
- Qualification in relevant or related field e.g., Psychology, Social Work or Allied Health or disability/community services with equivalent experience working with people with complex needs or minimum 5 years relevant role experience.
- Demonstrated experience in work closely with participants to identify what current and future supports are required to make progress with a person’s goals and aspirations.
- Proven experience conducting planning conversations with participants to create plans to support the goal of living an ordinary life
- Ability to provide relevant in-language information, advice on Disability and NDIS
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and able to provide verification if requested.
