**Job Description**:
We are looking for a Principal Iron Ore Analyst to join our Bulks Assets team. This role will be based in Perth, Australia, joining a global team of well-established experts. As part of the Metals and Mining Research Unit, the Bulks Assets team is responsible for delivering comprehensive research coverage of global coal, iron ore and steel assets, including analyses on production, costs, mining parameters and operational risks. Wood Mackenzie’s high-quality Bulks Assets research provides value to our clients, by providing a guide to the rapidly transitioning energy sector and assisting clients in making the best commercial decisions to secure their business success.

You will be primarily responsible for the coverage of the iron ore assets in Australia and West Africa as well as for leading our global iron ore cost benchmarking process, including the VIU cost analysis.

**Main Responsibilities**

A key part of your role is to develop relationships with the Bulks natural resources community. These strong relationships will enable you to gather intelligence that will enrich the quality and timeliness of our research solutions. You will also become a go-to expert for clients and media. You will work closely with our sales and consulting colleagues in supporting clients. This will involve regularly sharing and presenting data and informed views on the coal mining sector and demonstrating how our insight and solutions help clients make better decisions.

You will be able to prioritise what matters to clients and the team and have regular interaction with senior business stakeholders. Your focus will be to champion change, fostering an open, innovative and dynamic team environment. You will ensure that we embrace new technologies and techniques to improve data processes and workflow. You will also work with client management and consulting to generate new research, sales and consulting opportunities.

**Qualifications**:
You are degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (Economics, Business, Mining, Geology, Engineering etc.) and have experience in the metals and mining and/or energy sectors. Your previous experience includes reviewing iron ore assets, conducting competitor analysis and benchmarking and crafting industry-related cost curves. You may also have experience in iron ore exploration, operational workflows and trade and marketing.

You also understand the big picture, which enables you to analyse and form clear, coherent conclusions from various datasets and pieces of information. You find it easy to communicate complex or technical information and deliver messages that are easily understood. You thrive in a collaborative, commercial and client-centric environment.

You have a thorough understanding of the Microsoft Office suite of products. Programming skills are also desirable.

You are thoughtful, intellectually curious, creative and comfortable presenting to public audiences and interacting with small groups of executives.

You have a proven track record of fostering strong working relationships, developing networks and influencing others. The way you work is productive and driven, striving to be the best in class. You often share ideas, find better ways of working and make things happen.
