**FUNCTION**: External Affairs
**LOCATION**:Sydney, Australia
**ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES**
This role is part of the External Affairs team for the Southern Business Unit of BATs Asia Pacific Middle East and Africa Region (APMEA South). End Markets (EMs) which fall within this Business Unit are Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and several in the South Pacific.
The primary purpose of the role is to develop and deliver external and internal communications strategies which deliver on the objectives of the APMEA South and its EMs. A core priority is the promotion (internally and externally) of BATs corporate purpose of A Better Tomorrow and increased understanding of Tobacco Harm Reduction. Critical to success is the utilisation of innovative solutions to deliver these strategies.
**Reports to**:Head of External Affairs, APMEA South
**WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR**
- Ownership of DRBU internal and external communications strategy
- Strategic and operational guidance for EMs on internal and external communications.
- External media support for End Market Regulatory Campaigns
- Develop Business Communications capability in end markets, Regulatory Campaign teams and within APMEA South leadership team.
- Develop and maintain an external network of contacts to support the delivery of external communications activity.
- Increase media and public understanding of Tobacco Harm Reduction by developing and delivering strategies that leverage innovative solutions across the DRBU and in EMs.
- Co-ordinate with team members, including leadership teams, to maximize communications impact for various ongoing projects.
- Guidance and advice to resolve in market and above market Communications issues.
**CAN THIS BE YOUR FUTURE ROLE?**
- Do you have a tested track record in managing internal and external communications in a fast paced and controversial sector?
**CRUCIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE**
- Degree educated with relevant professional qualification
- Minimum 8-10 years’ work experience in FMCG/multi-national environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and drive strategy and proven track record of using media to achieve business objectives
- Senior level development and execution of impactful Communication strategies
- Innovative and bold experience coupled with an ability to balance risk and opportunity
- Demonstrated outstanding written, verbal and interpersonal skills
- Mastery of using external communications and branding to influence through regulatory campaigns
- Relevant experience in leading, developing and delivering through a team
- Ability to present to, engage and influence senior management (Global and Regional stakeholders, Top Teams, Boards and senior external stakeholders)
