An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and passionate individual to join the First Peoples-State Relations Group, in the Traditional Owner Rights & Land Justice Branch as Policy Lead, Land Rights Reform at the Department of Premier and Cabinet. **This is a designated position under section 12 of the**_Equal Opportunity Act 2010_**. The Policy Lead will manage a new Land Rights Reform team in the First Peoples - State Relations group (FPSR). The Policy Lead will work to enable self-determination and work in partnership with Traditional Owner Groups and Aboriginal organisations to achieve outcomes mutually beneficial to the State and First Peoples.
The Land Rights Reform team is responsible for:
- leading and coordinating reform of the Traditional Owner Settlement Act and Aboriginal Land Rights Acts and associated regulations and policies
- providing shadow policy functions for FPSR on programs and reforms that impact on Traditional Owner Rights (including planning, land and waters, environment, and infrastructure)
- ensuring there is policy and strategic alignment between native title, the Traditional Owner Settlement Act, Aboriginal Land Rights Acts and Traditional Owner Treaties
This role is a unique opportunity for a policy expert to have a significant influence on leading reforms within the Minister for Treaty and First Peoples' portfolio. You will lead a highly skilled, experienced team of policy officers on land rights and Traditional Owner rights reform. You will partner with First Peoples' organisations and advise senior executives, the Minister and the Premier. **This is a designated position under section 12 of the**_Equal Opportunity Act 2010_**. **About you**
- Demonstrated strong leadership experience at a senior level that fosters a strong and collaborative team culture through guiding others in accomplishing work objectives, managing people issues effectively and providing the necessary direction, support and guidance to facilitate the success of others.
- Proven high-level interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong and productive relationships within DPC, government and the community that are essential for the accomplishment of departmental objectives.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in providing policy analysis and advice to inform and shape government policy and programs relevant to the Treaty and First Peoples portfolio in a sensitive, time pressured and complex environment.
- Exceptional written communication skills, including ability to prepare and edit complex briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language, ensuring that they contain the information necessary to achieve their purpose and meet audience needs.
- Experience in delivering complex projects within tight timeframes and budget, including supporting teams to ensure projects are aligned with whole of government directions, constructing detailed work plans, achieving milestones, monitoring budget and communicating with stakeholders.
