**The Strategic Planning and Place Making Department** takes a strategic approach to long term planning and policy development to shape the growth, urban form, accessibility, and livability of our region whilst managing natural hazards and protecting and conserving our natural resources, environment, and heritage. The department’s plans, programs and initiatives are structured to meet the requirements of the Southeast Queensland Regional Plan and related State legislation, in addition to supporting local demands and needs.

**About the role**:
As a Principal GIS Research Officer, you will be welcomed into a brand-new role. You will provide specialist expertise and lead complex spatial and data analysis utilising a range of products and tools for data analysis, modelling, database design, data visualization and 2D/3D modelling. The cartographic, demographic and planning scheme outputs you deliver, will provide a strong, clear, evidence-base to inform Planning Directorate-wide/ strategic land use and infrastructure planning decision-making processes. This information is vital to help Council to continue to meet the needs of the community within the Moreton Bay Regional Council area.

You will provide leadership and direction to team members in the delivery of simple, effective, practical solutions to resolve complex data integration and operational issues.

**About You**:
We are seeking someone with experience in urban planning or urban planning projects, in addition to Geographical Information Services (GIS).

You will be a known leader with proven experience in building and maintaining effective working relationships across a range of internal and external stakeholders and assist in the development of team capability to drive high performance and a customer focused culture.

You will have a proven ability to communicate complex planning and data analysis concepts and matters in a simple and concise manner and negotiate best practice outcomes.

You will have considerable knowledge in the use of data modelling tools, programming languages such as Python, SQL and R and other data analysis products such as 3D modelling and ArcGIS Online/Enterprise.

Additionally, you will have:

- Substantial experience in project management and associated risk management practices.
- Degree in spatial science, geographical information, and data analysis or equivalent.
