About the School
Established in 1960, Yeronga SHS is a strongly connected, environmentally conscious, school community that has the well-being of the child central to all learning experiences.
Yeronga State High School is located in Brisbane's inner south side. We are a medium-sized school with approximately 900 students.
About the Role
This role will be initially offered for Semester 1, 2025 unless otherwise determined
**The role descriptions is not limited to**:

- Provide educational counselling and support to First Nations students with reference to pathways, and end of school plans at First Nations Mentoring and on Friday tutorial support sessions.
- Monitor First Nations student attendance; communicate with student and carers on attendance concerns.
- Daily check ins with students, contact with families.
- Participation and planning (with staff) of First Nations events and programs including Deadly Choices which are likely to enhance the involvement of First Nations students in education.
- Welfare checks of First Nations students not attending school and not engaging at school.
- Cultural guidance; support students, staff, carers and community on Cultural matters.
- Establish links with outside of school support agencies.
- Provide information to the school community about First Nation's cultural perspectives and knowledge.
- Develop and sources programs to enhance First Nations student's education and wellbeing.
- Educational counselling for students, carers and community.
- Support StAR process for First Nations student concerns.
- Suspension and re-entry meetings for First Nations students where possible.
- Community engagement including elder support, connections.
- Support student and teacher relationships.

**Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role**:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:

- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent; 
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives. 

By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
