Clinical Midwifery Consultant

Your role at St John of God Murdoch Hospital

As Clinical Midwifery Consultant you will be responsible for the delivery of patient centred care within their area of specialty to achieve optimal patient outcomes within allocated resources whilst supporting and promoting the Mission and Values of St John of God Health Care (SJGHC). You will provide clinical leadership in your field as well as consultancy services to medical, nursing/midwifery and allied health care professionals.

You will be responsible for improving and maintaining standards, developing solutions and delivering outcomes consistent with service and organisational imperatives and targets. This includes the provision of performance monitoring, policy review and development, development and delivery of clinical education implementing changes to clinical practice and initiating research and quality improvement activities. You will provide quality patient care and patient experience across the midwifery setting in a coordinated multidisciplinary approach

The Position- Function autonomously as an independent practitioner in the delivery of specialist midwifery care, providing assessment and the development of individualised treatment plans for patients.- Maintain advanced clinical skills and provides direct clinical care in the area of specialty practice.- Incorporate Evidence Based Nursing/Midwifery Practice into patient care and leadership responsibilities.- Facilitate the provision of advanced and complex patient care within the area of midwifery specialty, working in partnership with the patient, their family, the interdisciplinary team and external service providers.- Provide specialized training and education resources to the broader multidisciplinary team to support best practice care delivery in the area of midwifery practice.- Identify unsafe care practices and implements corrective action in collaboration with others as required.- Demonstrate leadership through effective communication, interpersonal skills and change management capability reflective of a culture of professional accountability and quality service.- Promote and maintain collaborative relationships with accredited Medical Practitioners.- Actively participate in all relevant clinical and non-clinical committees within and externally to the hospital.- Serve as a resource and mentor of current evidence-based practice through role modelling and support of Nursing and Midwifery practice.- Lead, develop and contribute to the implementation of best practice standards relevant to in the area of specialty using an evidence-based approach and innovative solutions to continually lift the standards of practice.- Contribute to policy development to support clinical outcomes and patient experience in the area of specialty.- Provide assistance in the procurement of equipment, consumables and other materials as they relate to Midwifery.- Actively participate in and lead quality improvements and risk management activities within the area of specialty.

To succeed you will Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse/Midwife with a Post registration qualification in area of specialisation.
