**About the Role**

Aegis Health is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Clinical Coder to join our Health Information Services team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of clinical data, which supports high-quality patient care, hospital funding, and performance reporting.

As a Clinical Coder, you will be responsible for abstracting, analysing, and assigning accurate diagnostic and procedural codes in accordance with ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and the Australian Coding Standards.

**Key Responsibilities**

- Accurately abstract and assign diagnostic and procedure codes for all inpatient episodes using ICD-10-AM, ACHI, and Australian Coding Standards.
- Utilise medical records and hospital databases to ensure coding accuracy and completeness.
- Generate and resolve clinical coding queries by liaising with clinicians, nurses, and allied health staff.
- Provide education and guidance to clinical teams to improve documentation quality and completeness.
- Participate in coding audits, data quality reviews, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support research and clinical audit activities by providing coded data and DRG-related information.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of hospital coding processes and maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.

**About You**

**Essential Criteria**:

- Certificate IV / Diploma in Clinical Classification or Bachelor of Health Information Management.
- Minimum of two years’ experience coding in an acute hospital setting.
- Sound knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease processes.
- Proficiency in coding and grouping software with strong computer literacy.
- Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise across multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a team.

**Desirable Criteria**:

- Five or more years of hospital coding experience.
- Understanding of activity-based funding (ABF) and Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs), ideally within the private sector.
- Familiarity with Equal Opportunity, Disability Services, and Workplace Health & Safety principles.

**Pre-Employment Requirements**

- Verification of eligibility to work in Australia
- Police check clearance
- Working with Children Check (if applicable)
- Pre-employment health assessment
