AIG Underwriting teams help to find insurance solutions in areas including Casualty, Financial Lines, Property, Specialty Lines, Cyber, and Multinational Clients. Casualty is a strategically critical product not just within AIG Australia, but within the APAC region as a whole. The Casualty Australia portfolio is the largest General Liability portfolio in AIG APAC, and the second largest overall casualty portfolio in the region. We are continually striving to invest in our team and systems to maximize the growth opportunity and strengthen our position as a market leader in each of the segments in which we operate.
This role is a critical part of AIG’s go-to-market growth strategy for our Casualty business In Australia, incorporating Commercial Accounts, Major Accounts, Environmental Liability, Contaminated Products Insurance and Product Recall. Senior Leaders at AIG are responsible for developing and executing business strategies, transforming those strategies into meaningful outcomes and ultimately, business results. As a Senior Leader, you collaboratively reach across geographical and functional boundaries to create relationships that further the objectives and market position of AIG and AIG Casualty. Your deep and broad industry knowledge allows you to foresee external conditions that could potentially affect AIG’s future. Your expansive market and client relationships give you a deep understanding of the Australian Casualty market and the overall market as a whole.
Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:
- Drive business strategy to successfully propel AIG Casualty Lines into a significant and profitable long-term, sustainable leadership position in the marketplace in support of the company’s ROE objectives over the long-term. This includes detailed monitoring standards / quality reviews to assess loss ratios and underwriting results.
- Drive the Casualty vision and value proposition in close co-operation with Country GM’s and the International Casualty function, that recognize changing business and competitive environment dynamics, key business drivers, and financial elements and demonstrate the value we bring to our clients.
- Accountable for business oversight, and technical and governance ownership of product for Australia.
- Develop, position, market, and deliver innovative, market-leading products and services through geographical framework to a network of producers in a manner that effectively leverages our strengths as a competitive differential in the marketplace.
- Drive underwriting excellence across the Property business within Global ‘guardrails’, in collaboration with the CUO, by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy.
- Ensure alignment amongst Casualty underwriting staff and leads on interaction with Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, Finance and other functions to achieve product and company goals.
- Collaborate with Actuarial on creating and maintaining proper pricing tools and technique.
- Work closely with Reinsurance team to ensure an effective reinsurance strategy that supports our risk appetite for per risk and aggregation across all product lines, as well as active management of the portfolio.
- Collaborate with Claims team to ensure a reputation of Claims excellence in the marketplace.
- Ensure the required standards of governance, systems and controls, and regulatory compliance are established and maintained
- Establish strong relationships; create mutual understanding of overall Casualty strategy, underwriting methodology and the risks we assume to drive effective execution of the business model.
- Develop tools and strategies, in collaboration with HR, to attract and retain top industry talent and develop high performing teams.
- Drive a team culture that promotes collaboration, innovation, diversity and inclusion, exemplary conduct, employee engagement and performance excellence.
