An exciting opportunity is now available for a COMPASS Research Officer to join SAHMRI, providing dedicated research support for the _Connecting Our Mob: Patient navigators As Sustainable Support (COMPASS)_ project. This role focuses on the analysis, interpretation, and communication of qualitative research findings, contributing to a deeper understanding of the project’s impact.
The Research Officer will work closely with the project and Chief Investigator (CI) teams to analyse qualitative interview data alongside quantitative site data, ensuring findings are translated effectively for diverse audiences.
About the role
Key responsibilities include:
- Support the coding, management, analysis, and interpretation of qualitative data
- Collaborate with the project team to develop coding frameworks and research themes to ensure validity and consistency in data analysis
- Identify and summarise key themes, insights, and patterns from research findings and project outputs to inform project outcomes
- Assist with implementing the COMPASS communication strategy, including preparing outputs such as website content, social media posts, videos, and other dissemination tools
- Contribute to writing research publications, conference presentations, and community-facing reports
- Draft summaries and interpretations of research findings for various audiences
- Support culturally safe and respectful research practices, ensuring alignment with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and experiences
- Provide general administrative support related to the COMPASS project, as needed
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience at similar levels in government and/or Aboriginal Community-Controlled Organisations.
- Knowledge of the health system, health policy, health programs and/or clinical practice particularly with a focus on Aboriginal health and renal health.
- Experience in health systems research, including culturally safe practices and developing models of care that improve the experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a culturally safe, sensitive, and accountable manner with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals, communities, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and social issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their contemporary impact.
- Experience in writing reports for senior officials and lay audiences.
- Understanding of ethical conduct of research, service delivery, and consultation.
- Computer literacy in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Efficient time management skills to ensure a high quality of work is completed within the required time frame.
- Support SAHMRI’s commitment to reconciliation and acknowledge the importance of working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
