The Land Justice Unit (LJU) is responsible for leading the Government's negotiation and implementation of agreements and resolution of claims under the Traditional Owner Settlement Act 2010 (Vic) (TOS Act) and resolutions of claim made under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth).
Reporting to the Director, LJU, you will manage a team of project officers responsible for advancing several Traditional Owner Group's recognition and land justice aspirations. Your team will assist those groups to be ready to negotiate, conduct negotiations, implement agreements, and undertake related policy development, stakeholder engagement, communication, research, and evaluation tasks. Infrequent after-hours work and travel from Melbourne may be required.

The First Peoples - State Relations Group recognises the invaluable contribution of existing Aboriginal staff and is committed to promoting Aboriginal leadership as reflected in the Group's executive team. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people and strongly encouraged to apply.
About you
**To succeed in this role, you will possess**:

- Knowledge of native title, land rights, or equivalent processes and the broad issues affecting Victorian traditional owner groups.
- Excellent people management skills ad ability to align team with the organisational values and goals through effective people management, coaching and modelling.
- Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in policy analysis and advice to inform and shape government policy and programs relevant to the Treaty and First Peoples portfolio.
- Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills, with an ability to establish and maintain effective and culturally safe working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Exceptional written communication skills ncluding ability to prepare and edit complex briefs, correspondence, submissions and reports.
