The Analytical Services Branch consists of a team of over 100 staff based in North Ryde and Port Melbourne. We are responsible for conducting chemical and biological measurement on a wide range of samples (including water, soil, food and pharmaceuticals). Performing a diverse range of tests (including elements, nutrients, organic contaminants and microbiological parameters). We provide analytical solutions and technical expertise for a large set of private sector and government clients across the environmental, food and health sectors, enabling them to meet their business, research and regulatory compliance needs. We also work closely with the tertiary education sector in Australia and have a number of international stakeholders. The Australian Ultra Trace Laboratory, AUTL, is a highly specialised laboratory operating advanced instrumentation to provide world class capabilities for environmental contaminants such as dioxins and PFAS.
We are excited to be offering a role based at North Ryde that will focus on laboratory services. Primary focusses are providing administrative support for the laboratories (Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, AUTL), ensuring good service delivery outcomes and operational process improvements. Whilst this role is more of an administrative nature a comprehensive scientific background and knowledge of laboratory operations is required. The Laboratory Services Officer role is highly collaborative, engaging with staff across these laboratories and the associated support functions on the site. We need to build more efficient work management systems and new capabilities to improve our delivery and offer.

**What you will do**:
This position is based at NMI North Ryde and is a full time position providing administrative and technical support to the Analytical Services Branch through receiving and processing incoming environmental, food and pharmaceutical samples, storage and disposal after testing, despatch of sampling containers, liaising with stakeholders and compiling and issuing reports and invoices to clients.
You will report to the Laboratory Services Manager at North Ryde with accountabilities extending to all parts of the North Ryde Analytical Services and AUTL laboratory operations.
In this role you will:
- Provide administrative and technical support to NMI North Ryde including : Sample receipt, accurate and timely registration of samples into NMI’s LIMS, assignment of pricing and turn-around-times and other client specific instructions, timely and accurate report generation, invoicing and assisting with other Laboratory Services as required.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with team members, internal and external clients and understand, respond and resolve customer enquiries.
- Be accountable for completion of allocated tasks, organising workflows, review of work processes and development/training of less experienced team members.

- Work collaboratively and make effective use of individual and team capabilities
- Show initiative and be responsive to changes in requirements
- Contribute to strategic planning and the implementation of process improvement initiatives
**Eligibility**:
To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, applicants must be Australian Citizens.
**Security Clearance**:
These positions require a Baseline security clearance. The successful applicants will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
