John Holland is looking for an experienced **National Sustainability Specialist** to join our Infrastructure and Major Projects Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability team. Reporting into our Environment & Sustainability Manager - Infrastructure & Major Projects, you will be accountable for managing and enhancing the sustainability and environmental performance and ensuring compliance for all project works. As well as engaging and being a part of our wider Environment and Sustainability Infrastructure and Major Projects team providing strategic support and input across upcoming tenders and existing projects Nationally. This role can be based out of our Sydney or Melbourne offices.

**Responsibilities of the role include**:

- Coordinate and provide day to day specialist sustainability support to internal stakeholders, including Group, Business Unit and Project teams
- Provide operational sustainability guidance, diligence, consistency and discipline to business leaders to drive a culture of best practice
- Support the resourcing, set-up and inclusion of sustainability requirements during project mobilisation and launch, including the onboarding and management of sustainability consultants
- Identification and effective management of sustainability opportunities, initiatives, R&D trials and programs of work
- Collaborate with Design, Procurement, Commercial, Environmental and Social Impact teams to imbed and maximise project and business environmental, social and economic outcomes
- Facilitate workshops, training and knowledge sharing forums to drive sustainability initiatives and build a culture of contemporary thinking across the business
- Support the tender process by providing sustainability technical input to EOI, RFPs and tenders
- Liaise with government bodies and keep up to date with ISC, GBCA and new legislation in relation to sustainability, Net Zero Carbon and Climate
- Establish, monitor and report on key sustainability and environmental performance objectives and targets for managing project impacts and report to senior staff members
- Provide assistance and guidance to sustainability and environment professionals enabling them to deliver and lead contemporary approaches and practices
- Support the development of environmental and sustainability team personnel in leading practices and driving improvement
- Ensure John Holland adopts robust due diligence and risk management processes and understands and meets its regulatory and legal environmental obligations
- Monitor, measure and evaluate environment and sustainability performance in order to support the continuous improvement of John Holland’s systems and practice
- Support the development of systems, modelling and data flows to enable accurate accounting of Carbon and associated climate change targets from pre-contracts through to project completion

**To be successful in this key role, you must have**:

- Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Sustainability or other associated disciplines
- Specialist environmental and sustainability experience within the Construction industry ideally within a Tier 1 Contractor
- Understanding of environmental and sustainability management techniques and statutory approval processes
- Understanding of Federal, State and local environmental statutes and legislation
- Knowledge of tender requirements, project planning, development, implementation and review
- Specialist construction exposure for 5 or more year
