Research Officer- Bone Therapeutics

The Skeletal Diseases Program (co-led by Profs Mike Rogers and Jacqueline Center) is one of six new strategic research programs at the Garvan Institute. This multi-disciplinary team consists of laboratory-based and clinical researchers working together, with national and international partners, to address major challenges in bone health, with a specific focus on osteoporosis and cancer-associated bone disease.
THE OPPORTUNITY
**Salary**: Up to $95,168 + 14% super + salary packaging
Employment Type: 1.5 years term contract (potentially renewable)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Performs with mínimal supervision:
- Tissue collection and processing for various types of analyses (e.g. RNAseq, histology, cell culture, flow cytometry, western blotting).
- Cell and tissue culture and cell transfection.
- Immunohistochemical and immunofluorescence staining.
- Basic microscopy and imaging.
- Multicolour flow cytometry.
- RNA isolation and library preparation, real time PCR.
- Western blotting.
- Maintain a high standard of electronic record keeping.
ABOUT YOU
The key skills and experience of a Research Officer include at least some of the following:
- Multicolour flow cytometry skills (essential).
- Microscopy/imaging (essential).
- Animal handling (essential).
- Molecular biology techniques e.g. plasmid preparation, bacterial transformation, cell transfection, RNA isolation and DNA library preparation, real time PCR, RNA-seq (essential).
- Biochemistry techniques e.g. western blotting, enzyme assays, metabolomics (highly desirable).
- Experience of cell culture and lentiviral cell transfection (highly desirable).
- Histology and immunocytochemistry (highly desirable).
- Bioinformatics knowledge (desirable).
- Ability to plan, co-ordinate and implement experiments (essential).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (essential).
