**Lead Analyst - Australian Gas**
The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking a Lead Analyst for
the Australian gas sector. This role is a result of IEEFA’s continued effort to accelerate the
transition to a diverse, sustainable and profitable energy economy.

We are looking for an experienced analyst with deep knowledge of the energy sector and hands
- on experience in financial analysis. The analyst would have a good understanding of the impacts
of the global transition to renewable energy in power generation, buildings and industry on
Australian gas production and exports. They would have experience developing evidence-based
and narrative-led reports to influence government and finance stakeholders and be comfortable
representing their research in the media. They would be self-motivated in pursuit of excellence,
collaborative to lead the team and flexible to be effective.

IEEFA is a rapidly-growing NGO/not-for-profit that conducts research and analysis on financial
and economic issues related to energy markets, trends and policies. Headquartered in the United
States, IEEFA has a team of analysts and communications personnel located across the globe. Our
dynamic Australia-based team works collaboratively with IEEFA internationally and in the region
across different research areas including the coal, gas, and electricity markets.

IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research, as well as ongoing analysis and reports
on issues affecting energy industries. Our major research reports, daily commentaries, press

**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Lead the Gas focused team to research, interpret, and publish reports including analysis,
and commentaries covering Australia’s gas sector
- Set a strategy for the team - including strategic goals, a research plan and influencing
approach - and ensure that it is implemented
- Conduct cutting-edge financial analysis, financial modelling, and market analysis with
integrity to evaluate key market trends for Australian gas production and exports
- Structure, draft and review reports, submissions, press releases and presentations
- Horizon scanning for energy and finance news through articles, annual reports, investor
presentations, and industry reports on global energy markets and investments
- Establish relationships and engage with relevant external stakeholders (e.g. investors,
project partners, government departments) in Australia and represent IEEFA at
meetings and industry events
- Contribute to disseminating research findings through active media and social media
presence
- Manage performance and day-to-day issues for the Australian Gas team and suggest
areas of improvement
- Work collaboratively with IEEFA colleagues in Australia and the region to ensure
research alignment and effective communication approaches
- Other duties as assigned

**Required Qualifications**
- A minimum of 8 years experience working in the energy or finance sector covering the
energy markets in Australia or the Asia-Pacific region, with strong emphasis on fossil
fuel commodities, particularly gas and LNG
- A Master’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering and/or with
professional certifications (e.g. CFA) or appropriate and relevant market-oriented
experience in lieu of those degrees
- Extensive experience conducting quantitative analysis on energy, finance and/or
economic issues
- Excellent narrative building and writing skills demonstrated through publications,
reports, and commentaries
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and with good
political judgment to media, finance and government stakeholders
- Strong track record of attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive and lead a team effectively
- Deep understanding of the finance and policy landscape in energy markets, with a focus
on Australia
- High degree of technological proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and
- Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable,
and profitable economy

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience working in the not-for-profit sector
- Be team-oriented with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

**Compensation and Benefits**
Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual
agreement. Remuneration AUD 140,000 - AUD 155,000 base, plus super. Our competitive benefits
package includes annual leave (20 days per year), personal/carer’s leave (10 days per year), an
Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a home office set-up stipend, a monthly mobile phone
allowance, and technology equipment provided.

**Work Schedule**
Full-time, 5 days/week with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
