**Strategic Policy and Legislation shapes the department's strategic direction for domestic and family violence, carers, seniors and child protection policy. We do this by providing strategic policy advice in collaboration with other units, the department's regions, other government agencies, and community controlled and non-government partners. Maximising life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families is a priority and can only be achieved through genuine partnership and coordinated effort between government agencies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Strategic Policy and Legislation has four main areas of focus:
- Strategic policy: policy advice and development to support strategic decision making and systems reform
- Legislation: ensuring our legislation is fit-for-purpose and promotes the best interests of the child
- Intergovernmental relations: securing improved outcomes for Queensland children and families with other states and territories and the Commonwealth
- Research and evaluation: ensuring our policies and programs are evidence-based.
Your contribution
As a Policy Officer, you will:
- research and present advice to contribute to policy and legislative processes across the department
- coordinate and prepare comprehensive, accurate and timely briefings and documentation to support policy and legislative reforms to achieve the department's strategic objectives.
Key duties and responsibilities
The Policy Officer key responsibilities are:
- Support the department's consultative processes and attendance at inter-agency meetings.
- Analyse and prepare reports, general correspondence, briefing notes, memoranda for approval to departmental standards on diverse issues.
- Provide high quality process support to departmental policy and research functions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with key internal stakeholders.
Prior policy experience is not a requirement of the position. Applicants with frontline child safety, domestic and family violence or other backgrounds seeking a career change are encouraged to apply.
