**About Us**:
Rivers Youth Versatile Education and Training Centre (RYVETS) is an alternate schooling concept which is being driven by key representatives from the Department of Education (including Pine Rivers State High School, Bray Park State High School, Dakabin State High School) in conjunction with the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Department of Children, Youth Justice and Multicultural Affairs (CYJMA).
RYVETS is located at Rivers Baptist Church located on Francis Rd, Lawnton.The school will run for four days per week with one day (Friday) designated as a Case Management and Planning Day.
**The key goals of the RYVETS program include**:
- Increased engagement in education and training for vulnerable and at-risk students to break the cycle of systemic offending behaviour, agency dependence etc.
- Improving relationships between young people, families, the community and QPS.
- Enhance students' wellbeing and social-emotional connectedness.
- Improve the likelihood of school completion and achievement through regular attendance and engagement in their educational program which will adopt a client-centered approach focused on building capacity and positive youth participation and contribution to the community.
- Provide a safe, flexible learning environment.
- Actively working with families and communities and engaging them as a part of the solution.
- Reduction in youth crime through explicit and targeted focus on addressing local issues.
- Providing an educational facility which adopts a multiagency approach to boost protective factors and address risk factors.
This is a PO2 progression position as per the Role Description. The successful applicant will be appointed to the PO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the PO3 once specific criteria have been met or demonstrated. Please note salary rate shown is reflective of PO2 to PO3 classification range.
**About the Role**:
**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Undertake individual and group counselling with students, parents and families to assist them in resolving personal or relationship concerns.
- Provide professional social welfare assessments, interventions and follow up support to students, parents/carers and individuals as required.
- Identify needs and participate in the referral and planning of services for children, parents and families to community agencies such as health and welfare.
- Develop and implement strategies to provide information, support and encourage awareness of, and participation by, parents/carers and the community in school activities and programs.
**About You**:
Ideal attributes of staff members involved in this project include:
- A strong understanding of working with young people from complex trauma backgrounds, or a willingness to develop a greater understanding in this space.
- A demonstrated ability to adhere to mandatory reporting processes.
- A growth mindset related to the achievement of student outcomes.
- The ability to be flexible and dynamic and cater to the individual needs of students.
- The capacity to manage sensitive information and work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to empathise with young people from a diverse range of backgrounds, and focus on the need to work collaboratively to assist these young people towards a more positive future.
