Environmental Prediction Services is a world class centre for scientific expertise, services and modelling, across four predictive services teams, one of which focusses on climate. EPS Climate is an integrated, multi-disciplinary team responsible for delivering operational and specialist climate and hydro-climate services for Australia and the southwest Pacific.

The Senior Hazard Risk Specialist provides climate and hydrological data analysis, expert intelligence, valuable technical insights and tailoring of climate products and services, in support of risk and resilience services the Bureau delivers as a partner in the Australian Climate Service - a partnership made up of world leading science, information and expertise from the Bureau of Meteorology, Geoscience Australia, CSIRO and Australian Bureau of Statistics.

You will contribute to service delivery to support national climate risk assessments, including national hazard risk scenarios, and the future risk of heatwaves, fire weather, tropical cyclones and heavy rainfall.

A solution focused approach, excellent science communication abilities and a mindset of delivering high level intelligence in operational timeframes, will be essential. You will possess high-level skills in working with weather and climate data, including large volume data sets of historical observations, long-range forecasts and climate projections, with exposure to one or more hazards.

You will require post graduate qualifications in climatology, hydrology or meteorology and experience in working with climate observations and future projections. Experience in high-impact weather and hazards will be advantageous.
