**Role**:
Ballarat High School occupies a significant site in Sturt Street West, Ballarat, and its buildings and grounds appearance contributes to the wider Ballarat community in addition to the School community. The School wishes this pride to continue for many future generations and the work of our Maintenance and Grounds staff are a key aspect of this. Full compliance with all statutory obligations and Department of Education standards are also paramount.
Ballarat High School has a full time Grounds and Maintenance Co-ordinator, this part time Assistant position would work in association with the Co-ordinator, undertaking a range of tasks to maintain, repair and develop the buildings and site. Further assistance from casual staff is also utilised, as required.
Working hours would be 8.00am until 4.06pm each school day.
Attendance is required during the school holiday periods. Annual Leave of 20 days per annum is provided. The VGSA provides ES staff with 10 weeks of leave (4 weeks Annual, plus 6 weeks Additional). To compensate for relinquishing this Additional Leave, a Leave Purchase Allowance will be paid each fortnight.
In order to ensure our operational requirements are met, no more than 2 weeks of Annual Leave can be taken during school holiday periods (per annum).
As an Education Support staff member, the range of duties may be expanded in the future in accordance with the ES Level 1, Range 2 General Duties.
**Responsibilities**:
The following listed responsibilities are designed to be informative, but not exhaustive, as circumstances and requirements may change over time.
Carry out general maintenance, preventative maintenance and repairs to ensure school buildings and grounds are in a usable and safe condition.
Buildings;
- undertake basic repairs to furniture, locks, doors, hinges, windows, taps, toilets, downpipes, spouts, plaster board, painting, fences/gates, light fittings etc.
- construct small scale building projects
Grounds;
- mow ovals and grass areas
- keep school surrounds clean and tidy, including the use of a leaf and litter vacuum and high-pressure water cleaner.
- trim, mulch, weed and tidy existing garden areas
- develop new gardens and plantings
- preparation of ovals and turf cricket wickets for sports programs and community use
- collect and remove rubbish/debris
General;
- assist with the implementation of cyclical maintenance programs, including compliance & inspection items
- support contractors and tradesmen working on site
- keep maintenance workspaces in a clean, safe and orderly condition
- undertake equipment maintenance
- purchase supplies and equipment
- clean up spills and remove graffiti
- regularly check Maintenance Log and take appropriate action
- move furniture and equipment as required
- assist with preparations for special school events
- respond to emergency situations and assist where possible
- comply with all appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and actively encourage compliance by others
- respond to service requests from staff within a reasonable timeframe
- uphold the school values of Pride, Respect and Responsibility
- assist in the identification of own training needs
- participate in an annual process of Performance Development
