Mott MacDonald is looking to recruit an experienced rail safety, competency and compliance manager to ensure our technical staff are aware of and maintaining the appropriate level of competency and certification for the projects on which they are working.
- Although primarily rail based initially, the role will expand to cover other disciplines and will include responsibility for our Australia-wide business.

You will report to the ANZ Rail Systems Practice Lead and be responsible for implementing the rail safety strategy across each region, working closely with local Rail System Leads and supporting administration teams.

What you will do:
Rail Safety
- Improve and maintain staff knowledge of Rail Safety requirements
- Maintain company statistics on near Misses / Incidents etc
- Collation and briefing of teams on changes to rail related regulations / rules / standards / safety notices
- Prepare and deliver monthly briefings / training bites
- Rail Safety Training
- Arrange competency and compliance related training such as Track Safety awareness, RIW, White Cards, State cards, Safety Leadership courses, medicals etc.
- Arrange assessor training for in house SME’s (to reduce reliance on external parties, increase success rates and reduce cost)
- Manage training of individuals to undertake rail risk assessments / SWMS/ local processes & systems - collection and distribution (SharePoint) of best practice procedures
- PPE equipment - collate requirements / reminders etc
- Organise / manage site safety and process audits
- Competency Management
- Identify the needs of organisation registration and each individual’s role competencies required for local compliance and across States where appropriate
- Establishment of competency management systems across ANZ - tailored to local requirements
- Keep abreast of, and relay changes to the competency requirements to staff and trace actions as appropriate
- Track all competencies and roles for all staff, send reminders before expiry dates
- Ensure contracting Engineers are maintaining appropriate competencies
- Liaise with discipline leads/ practice leaders on discipline requirements, recruitment/transfers occurring to remain proactive and ensure staff are “ready for work” as soon as practicable
- Arrange formal registration of all Engineers on the National Engineering Register
- Develop a network of competency managers & assessors
- Your experience will include:

- A background in similar compliance management type roles, preferably in the rail industry but also other sectors such as manufacturing or any other compliance type environment.
- The ability to be self-sufficient, to adapt to requirement/ legislation changes, with clear coordination and good communication skills along with the ability to hit the ground running.
- A high level of computer literacy and working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs
