THE ROLE

About the Position

The RPC will work closely with the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (one of four faculties at Macquarie) - to identify, shape, enable and secure opportunities to translate their research into tangible outcomes for the betterment of society, the economy, and the environment, working closely with partners. As an RPC you will play in integral role in driving research impact for Macquarie, and ultimately, helping to solve and address real world problems.

Specifically, the RPC will co-ordinate and support university research partnership activities and the development and implementation of research investment attraction strategies and initiatives aligned to the University’s strategic research priorities; facilitate engagement with research partners; and contribute to the development and implementation of frameworks, policies, procedures, and processes to maximise the university's research income and impact. You can also work independently to operationalise team goals.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Enterprise [PVC(RIE)] provides strategic and operational leadership on all matters relating to research and development, consultancy, innovation, translation, commercialisation, entrepreneurship, start-up company incubation and corporate partnerships including but not limited to research partnerships. The role oversees the implementation of processes that advance and sustain relationships in the interests of the University and its partners.

The Director of Partnerships leads the MQ Partnerships team and provides strategic direction, advice and training on all aspects of university partnership activities; to cultivate high value, long term strategic partnerships; to facilitate the achievement of university revenue attraction targets; to develop, drive and implement research investment attraction strategies and initiatives aligned to the University’s strategic research priorities; and to develop and implement efficient frameworks, policies, procedures and processes to achieve the above objectives.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences incorporates a number of schools and departments that include medicine and allied health, psychology and linguistics. The faculty has a strong record of research achievements, including working with external partners in industry and government.

The Role

The RPC sits within the Research Partnerships arm of the MQ Partnerships team, and will have a strategic and very particular focus on working with the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences. The RPC will be genuinely integrated with, and work very closely with, the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences research office staff team. They will also work closely with the broader MQ Partnerships team - on interdisciplinary and complementary projects, and to share learnings, ideas, and connections.

The RPC position will collaborate with and support the Director, Partnerships, Research Partnership Managers, Strategic Research Bid Managers, and Business Development Manager to identify, shape and secure research funding opportunities and partnerships with industry and government. The RPC will consult with internal and external partners of the University to understand the needs and opportunities for research funding (consultancies, contract and collaborative research, and other research partnerships) and to identify emergent trends and priorities.

In this position you will initiate, develop and manage relationships with MQ researchers, government and non-government organisations, private industry and other current or possible investors in research at the University. You will provide expert advice and guidance to researchers relating to engagement with external organisations and on research proposals, tender bids, and project budgets. The RPC will also lead and project manage the development and procurement of these opportunities, working closely with internal MQ academics, professional services colleagues and Executive, and external partners as relevant.
