The Devices Post Market Monitoring Section undertakes a range of functions in relation to ongoing monitoring of safety and performance of medical devices supplied in Australia. This includes risk-based assessments of all reports entered into the Incident Report Investigation Scheme (IRIS) database and conducts in-depth investigations if necessary; review of reports submitted as part of conditions of supply, and emerging risk signals including reports of medical device supply disruptions. In addition, the section maintains surveillance of medical devices safety are based on signals from many sources such as reports in the TGA database, information from other regulators, unresolved or increasing number of recalls, government and publications in journals or newspapers. The section also provides advice to government, industry, consumers and media.
