The independent Australian Centre for Disease Control (Australian CDC) is at the frontline of improving Australia's ability to prepare for, and respond to, public health challenges, including pandemics. Subject to the passage of legislation from 1 January 2026, the Australian CDC will be an independent technical advisory agency on public health matters and a leader in disease control, preparedness, response, and prevention. The Australian CDC will collaborate with national and international health bodies to strengthen Australia's public health infrastructure.

We are seeking high-performing, adaptable, collaborative individuals with relevant experience or qualifications to join our team. Depending on the stream, duties may include policy development, program delivery, stakeholder engagement, operational support, data analysis or planning and preparedness activities.

This is a unique opportunity to work in a newly established agency where you can contribute to building the organisational culture from the beginning. As a small agency, you will work in multi-disciplinary teams where you can gain experience across a broad range of functions.

The Australian CDC is seeking enthusiastic ongoing APS employees to join teams at the APS5 and APS6 levels across the following streams:

  • Scientific, Medical and Epidemiology
  • Data Science
  • Planning and Preparedness

These roles support the establishment of the Australian CDC and contribute to Australia's public health capability.
