- Fulfil the accountabilities and responsibilities of this role in accordance with Metro South's purpose and objectives, as outlined below.
- Staffing and budget responsibilities:

- Assist other Public Health Physicians in supervising Public Health Registrars.
- The role has no budgetary responsibilities.
- Provide public health medical expertise, leadership, and management of the Communicable Disease Control team, including the clinical management and coordination of responses to diseases and to outbreaks within the area of jurisdiction, by undertaking or supervising the surveillance, investigation, management and responses to diseases and disease outbreaks.
- Oversee and participate in all aspects of immunisation program coordination, including training and updating vaccine service providers, monitoring immunisation rates, and providing expert advice to vaccine service providers.
- Provide expert advice about communicable diseases and environmental health issues of public health importance to professional colleagues, other agencies, the general public and the media.
- Participate in epidemiological analysis and the collation, analysis, interpretation, and quality control of a range of information and data, to assist in the formulation of public health priorities and to monitor health outcomes for public health programs.
- Provide public health medical leadership in investigations into alleged disease clusters.
- Fulfil delegated statutory and other responsibilities including the responsibilities of a Human Biosecurity Officer.
- Provide out-of-hours cover, which may cover multiple Hospital and Health Services on a roster basis with other Public Health Physicians.
- Perform any other duties directed by the Service which are within their scope of practice and for which they are registered in the State.
