Weir Minerals Australia Ltd. works closely with our customers to design, manufacture, supply and service minerals processing equipment which helps them to deliver natural resources to the world. We currently have a vacancy for a Patent Attorney to join our Corporate Services team in Artarmon 2064.
The role will support our engineering and commercial teams by providing intellectual property services in Australia and abroad in line with technology and business objectives.
This role will support patent and design protection for new inventions, including managing patent portfolios for various business groups. A particular focus for this role will be to support the Applied Materials group (creating advanced alloys, elastomers, polymers, composites and ceramics).
- The key responsibilities of this role will include: (but not limited to)_
- Building and maintaining good relationships with key stakeholders to optimise IP protection across the business.
- Delivering patent advice, support and general IP awareness across the Minerals technology areas.
- Organising, maintaining and updating files and docket information related to Minerals patent and design portfolios and related IP matters.
- Assisting in the review and approval of publications/presentations to prevent disclosure of confidential information.
- To be successful in this role you will have:_
- Graduate or post graduate degree in science, chemistry, material science or chemical engineering;
- 2-4 years’ experience in the patent field;
- a formal qualification, or close to qualification, as a patent attorney;
- a background in materials and minerals processing preferable, but not required;
- the ability to understand and communicate technical concepts accurately and succinctly;
- a proactive, confident and self-motivated outlook, comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy;
- rapport building and stakeholder management skills;
- an ability to work with a high level of detail and achieve accuracy and completeness;
- strong analytical capabilities with processing information and legal documents.
