**About the role**
- The Inspector of Custodial Services is a statutory, independent role established under the _Inspector of Custodial Services Act 2012_.
- The role is responsible for reviewing the treatment, conditions, and outcomes for adults and young people in custody across NSW. Reporting directly to Parliament, the Inspector of Custodial Services plays a critical role in promoting transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in custodial environments, while overseeing the Official Visitor programs and leading a dedicated team within the Office of the Inspector.
- As the Inspector of Custodial Services, you will:
- Lead inspections and thematic reviews of adult and juvenile custodial centres, providing independent advice and recommendations directly to Parliament.
- Oversee the Official Visitor programs across NSW, supporting approximately 100 Official Visitors through training, guidance, and strategic coordination.
- Provide strategic leadership to the Office of the Inspector, ensuring sound governance, financial management, and compliance with statutory obligations.
- Engage with Parliament, government agencies, and community stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in custodial environments.
- Identify and address systemic and cultural issues within custodial settings, advocating for reforms that enhance safety, equity, rehabilitation, and service efficiency.

**About You**
We’re seeking a highly experienced and principled leader with:
- A deep understanding of custodial systems, public sector governance, and whole-of-government reform principles.
- Proven success in executive leadership, strategic planning, and managing complex oversight functions with independence and integrity.
- The ability to foster constructive relationships across government, advocate for systemic reform, and lead a team committed to improving custodial outcomes.
- Proven experience managing competing priorities and delivering timely, well-considered recommendations, while setting clear and realistic expectations for Corrective Services NSW service standards.
- Extensive experience navigating sensitive and politically complex environments, exercising sound judgment in assessing and escalating risk, and providing strategic advice on high-stake and delicate matters.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and publishing sensitive information, with a strong focus on ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations, while maintaining transparency and fostering public trust.
