Assessors assist the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) during disciplinary matters relating to registered health practitioners. The function of an assessor when assisting QCAT is to advise the judicial member about questions of fact arising during the hearing of a disciplinary matter.
Through this work, assessors contribute to the Government's commitment to ensuring public protection, maintaining confidence in the range of health professions and upholding professional standards across Queensland.
Public Panel of Assessors
- Applications are sought from members of the public for appointment to the Public Panel of Assessors.
- Members of the public are also invited to nominate individuals who are qualified and eligible to become a member of the Public Panel of Assessors. Nominees will be invited to apply.

Professional Panels of Assessors
- Applications are sought from suitably qualified health professionals interested in being appointed as an assessor to the following panels of assessors:

- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners
- Chinese Medicine Practitioners
- Chiropractors
- Dental Hygienists, Dental Therapists and Oral Health Therapists
- Dental Prosthetists
- Dentists
- Medical Practitioners
- Medical Radiation Practitioners
- Midwifery
- Nursing
- Occupational Therapists
- Optometrists
- Osteopaths
- Paramedics
- Pharmacists
- Physiotherapists
- Podiatrists
- Psychologists

**Eligibility criteria**: Under the Health Ombudsman Act 2013, a person is qualified and eligible for appointment:
**To the public panel only if**:

- they are not a member of a National Health Practitioner Board (National Board); and
- they are not, nor have been, a health practitioner or registered as a health practitioner.

**To a professional panel only if**:

- they are not a member of a National Board; and
- they are registered with a National Board for the profession for which the panel is established; and

For appointment to the professional panels, it is preferable that an individual has at least eight (8) years of recent clinical experience.
