**The Role**
The Chief of Army’s Initiatives Group (CIG) is seeking an EL1 Analyst / Deputy Speechwriter to support the development of initiatives for the Chief of the Australian Army.
- Help develop land power initiatives/concepts.
- Support the drafting of speeches and scripts.
- Support the execution of Chief of Army Strategy Sessions.
- Help prepare the Chief of Army for international engagements.
- Liaise with universities and think-tanks on land power issues.
- Liaise with Army’s allies/partners on land power issues.
- Write for publication, and present at conferences and round-tables.

**About our Team**
The Chief of Army’s Initiatives Group (CIG) is a small, tight-knit team that works directly for the Chief of Army. Its task is a simple and clear one: support the Chief in his command of the Army.

The CIG helps the Chief of Army to:

- Think by framing problems and exploring challenges or opportunities.
- Craft Army’s narrative and future direction.
- Articulate commander’s intent and guidance.
- Prepare and shape external and internal engagements, nationally and internationally.
- Capture the context and logic for decisions and actions.

The CIG’s core outputs include: the Australian Army’s futures statement of ‘Accelerated Warfare’, the capstone document of ‘Army’s Contribution to Defence Strategy’, distribution of the Chief of Army’s annual strategic guidance and command guidance, drafting of the Chief of Army’s speeches and papers, and management of the Australian Army’s strategic partnerships with industry and elite sport.
- Analytical experience in land power theory, amphibious / littoral warfare, or maritime strategy. A background in strategic studies would be of value.
- A solid understanding of Australian military and strategic history and / or a genuine interest in this area.
- A proven track-record of communication skills, both written communication in terms of published works, and oral communication in terms of conferences and presentations. Previous speech and script writing experience would be beneficial.
- Solid connections with academia, think-tanks and the broader national security community.
- The ability to self-start, to use latitude to build their own work program, and the capacity to manage workstrands over extended periods with on-time delivery.
- The energetic, enthusiasm and creativity to work in the small, dynamic and tight-knit team.
- The role does not entail any leadership or management responsibilities.
