**The Position**:
The SURE Alcohol and Drug counsellor will provide an accessible, quality, therapeutic alcohol and drug counselling service. The aim is to reduce AOD related harm to individuals and their families by providing counselling interventions to assist clients and their family members to change harmful behaviours associated with AOD use and promote recovery. This role has a particular focus on supporting individuals and family members affected by substance use at the beginning of their treatment journey.
- Providing telephone-based intake service, bridging support, brief intervention, comprehensive assessment, information, advice and referrals to individuals and families. Including assessment of mental health and family violence risk.
- Enhancing the ability of individuals, family members and significant others to respond to drug and alcohol issues and build self-efficacy through the delivery of effective brief interventions and single-session work.
- Conducting comprehensive assessments and develop individual treatment plans whilst working within a harm reduction framework.
- Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to co-ordinate allocation to treatment providers
**The position objectives and key responsibilities are as follows**:
- Provide outcome-based counselling.
- Delivering care coordination to highest need/highest risk clients who present with complexity
- Provide comprehensive assessments including mental health screens.
- Develop Individual Treatment Plans for program participants.
- Assist clients to work towards harm minimisation strategies.
- Assist participants to utilise support networks.
- Enhance ability of individuals, family members and significant others to respond to drug and alcohol issues.
**You also need some specific qualifications**:
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Psychology, Counselling, Social Work or equivalent AND minimum AOD qualifications of Cert 4 or Grad Cert in AOD, or completion of Dual Diagnosis Competencies, or 2 years experience in the AOD sector or equivalent.
