We’re Cowry, the digital experiences team within Australian Payments Plus. Given we’re relatively new here, let’s start by intro’ing ourselves. AP+ is a family of cornerstone businesses you’d know; BPAY, eftpos, NPP, and while you haven't heard of ‘Cowry’ you probably have heard of a little digital wallet with over 1.5M customers called Beem which is just one of the products powered by us.
Our team love to explore new ground and challenge the status quo in the pursuit of fintech excellence. We live at the intersection of next-generation technology and traditional payments infrastructure, launching products from the ground up. Our mission is pretty simple; keep Australian payments open, keep businesses thriving and go beyond money.
**Product Manager Orchestration Core**
We are looking for a Product Manager to drive the next phase of payments and experiences for our open payments platform. You will play a critical role in creating and executing on the vision of open and agnostic payments for Australia, facilitated simply and securely with value add experiences through a reliable, fast and value packed platform. Defining requirements, and ideal user journeys in conjunction with the rest of the Cowry team you’ll be focused on making sure the technology of our core platform meets the needs of all users (consumers, merchants, experience providers and payment services).
Our Orchestration platform combines payments with experiences at the point of sale, allowing for merchants, banks and others to have payments wallets that can be accepted at the point of sale and can be linked to multiple experiences (such as loyalty, financial management and others) to create richer experiences. Aiming to one day have the majority of all Australian transactions running through it, the AP+ Orchestration needs to be built in a scalable way, that’s easy to integrate to, and provides the personalisation that it can enable to create new value for the ecosystem.
This role will need to balance technical reliability, functionality and accessibility across all requirements.
**Responsibilities**
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, to develop the roadmap for core functionality and key non functional requirements for platform uptake.
- Understand the drivers in the payments landscape - for merchants, consumers, financial institutions and value-adding players in the payments value chain - and thus how the product adds value to each
- Develop requirements, acceptance criteria and problem solve solutions that are innovative in the payment space whilst leveraging existing capabilities
- Work with the wider Australian Payments Plus group to initiate connection of our own internal payments and schemes
- Propagate understanding of usage and access requirements for different participants
- Liaise with payments and technology experts across other platforms to develop open solutions
- Help to drive and motivate delivery teams to execute on the vision
- Prioritise with the rest of the business to achieve business outcomes
**Requirements and skills**
- Experience in the technology industry, preferably in product or technology
- Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to question the status quo and communicate the benefits of taking a new path
- Attention to detail, with a strong ability to trade off speed, quality and functionality
- Ability to quickly grasp technical and payments concepts
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively and lead within cross-functional teams
- University degree in Commerce, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent preferred
We strive to create an environment where every member of the team feels empowered to make a decision for the benefit of our customers.
At Cowry, a growth mindset is fundamental to success. We are obsessed with data. It’s how we learn, ask better questions and improve. It allows us to take small bets, learn quickly (often by failing) and dust ourselves off. We believe that to fully embrace experimentation and failure as part of learning, it requires a culture where everyone feels safe enough to push beyond their own fears.
You’ll thrive in Cowry if:
- You have an agile, entrepreneurial mindset & thrive in an environment where you can reimagine your contribution each and every day
- The idea of working in a “start-up-esq” environment excites you (but you also sleep well at night knowing your job is secure)
- You love to test the boundaries of your abilities and champion your colleagues to do the same
- Your job title is just a point of reference for your LinkedIn profile, it doesn’t define who you really are
- You’re curious at heart, always asking questions and looking for ways to improve
Cowry may not be the place for you if:
- You thrive when working in a hierarchical “clunky” environment
- Your job title means the
