- **A postdoctoral research fellow position in particle accelerator-based research at the Pelletron accelerator laboratory in The School of Physics, University of Melbourne.**:
- **The successful applicant will undertake independent and collaborative research activities on a beamline equipped with a unique microanalysis and mapping capability based on a MAIA pixelated X-ray detector array. The instrument provides elemental mapping and microanalysis capabilities at micron resolution over large sample areas allowing researchers and technologists across diverse fields to perform measurements that are extremely rich in data content and difficult to perform by other means.**:

**About the Role**
Your responsibilities will include:
- Undertake internationally competitive accelerator-based research leading to journal publications,
- Pursue world-leading accelerator-based Physics using the unique suite of capabilities available in the Melbourne Pelletron laboratory,
- Present research outcomes at national and international conferences and workshops,
- Assist in the supervision and training of research students.
**Who We Are Looking For**
We are looking for a highly motivated individual who can significantly contribute to the research goals of a team while developing their own research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy. The individual will need to be able to foster collaborative partnerships with relevant research teams and professional and industry bodies.
You will also have:
- A PhD or equivalent in a relevant area of experimental physics,
- Research experience/demonstrated experience in particle accelerator based scientific research,
- An ability to work both independently and in collaboration with a team towards a common goal,
- A demonstrated aptitude for research, with a sound publication record in relevant areas, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
- Strong evidence of ability and desire to build an academic research career trajectory.

**Your New Team - “School of Physics“**
The postdoctoral position is associated with the Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (ECMP) group in the School of Physics, University of Melbourne. The ECMP group undertakes high quality, high impact research in a diverse range of fields including quantum science and quantum technologies development, accelerator-based microanalysis and elemental mapping, and biosciences and bio-engineering. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work in a team of highly motivated researchers and professional staff. The accelerator laboratory is supported through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS) as a node of the Heavy Ion Accelerator (HIA) platform and this position is supported through that program.
