What’s the job?

As a Duty Manager & Gardener, you will be reporting directly to the Safety & Security Manager and will be responsible for the safety and security, as well as having some gardening duties, at the Blue Mountains Leura Campus, during and after business hours.

This role is a unique hybrid position as a Gardener and Duty Manager. We currently have another employee on campus doing this dual role - so we are looking for someone who can complement his roster and duties for the reminder of the week.

The successful person will be working as Duty Manager overnight Monday, Saturday and Sunday (12am to 8am) and as a Gardener Thursday and Friday (6am to 2pm roughly).

When on Duty Manager shifts, you will be responsible for providing support where necessary for students. The role requires the ability to problem solve, manage emergencies such as student, staff and visitor health issues, critical incidents and other general issues outlined within this document. On the other hand, on your Gardener days, you will be responsible for maintaining the campus precincts, ensuring that the gardens and grounds presented to guests and students are to the highest standards.

Day-to-day accountabilities:
Duty Manager- Effectively manage any issues in relation to safety, health and welfare of students, visitors and or staff in the appropriate manner (as per P & Ps) Students / staff / visitors reside on a safe campus with mínimal incidents and injuries.- Communicate effectively with all other Duty Managers at the start and end of each shift and keep the DM phone on the person at all times.

Gardener:
- Maintain all common areas and grounds with plants that are healthy and aesthetically appealing.- Assist in the maintenance, improvement and renovation of the garden areas. This will include but is not limited to, digging, mulching, raking, mowing of lawns, pruning, removal of weeds, edging, planting of bulbs, annuals and perennials, fertilising, trimming, shaping of topiaries, topdressing and watering

This is full time, permanent position and will be based at the Blue Mountains Leura Campus. If you are solely interested in the Gardener role or the Duty Manager role, we are open to considering part-time and job-sharing arrangements. You will need full ongoing Australian working rights.

Who you are:
We are open to train someone on gardening duties, so we would love someone who can meet the skills requirement of a duty manager:
- Ideally someone who has a background in health (paramedic, nursing etc.) as the role has a strong focus on safety, health and welfare.- Someone with a similar experience in Duty Management in a hotel or similar industry would be an advantage- Someone who has empathy and care, and feels align with the Blue Mountains Hotel School brand.- In relation to the gardener duties, it would be great if you have worked in a gardening position and have used powered gardening tools, hand tools and external equipment (but not essential).
