Established in 1871, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is located in Sydney’s The Domain adjacent to the Royal Botanic Garden and near the Central Business District. The Gallery acknowledges the original custodians of this land - the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. The Gallery attracts around 1 million visitors annually and runs Australia’s largest art education program, with over 90,000 student and teacher visits per year.

With our expanded campus recent opening the Gallery has a new state-of-the-art building located next to our existing and much-loved building. Providing us with close to double the exhibition space, the expanded Gallery enables us to share more art with more people and provide more family, learning and educational programming for all our audiences.

**About the Role**

Provide support in the management and delivery of exhibitions as part of the curatorial team. Support the Senior Curator with the overall care, conservation, acquisition, research, interpretation, exhibition and display of the collection.

**Essential requirements**

Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent through parentage, identification as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and accepted in the community as such. Aboriginality is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-discrimination Act 1997.

**What technical / soft skills you require**
- Tertiary degree in art history or equivalent and knowledge of the department’s art coupled with curatorial experience or equivalent professional training in the arts sector, art gallery or art museum sector
- Proven experience in undertaking research to an academic standard, the ability to use Vernon CMS and/or other relational databases, advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and the ability to undertake a wide range of curatorial and cross-disciplinary programs.

**Targeted questions**
- Provide an example of when you have worked in a collaborative environment on a cultural project with multiple deadlines. Please provide details of how you managed your part of the workload to ensure deadlines were met. (maximum of 400 words).
- Discuss an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art exhibition that you have curated and describe how you determined the theme and content. Provide details on how you worked with the artists on delivering the projects objectives and the importance of this. (maximum of 400 words)
