The Australian Plant Phenomics Facility (APPF) was established in 2009 under the Australian Government’s National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) to develop a globally collaborative plant phenomics capability that provides leadership in infrastructure, skills and service for agricultural research and industry to maximise the productivity in Australia’s unique and variable environment.
The Field Operations Officer will oversee and organise field phenotyping operations for The Plant Accelerator node. Duties involve communicating with facility users and prospective users regarding their imaging needs, field trial specifics, scheduling imaging sessions, and facilitating site access. Additionally, the role entails conducting quality control assessments for image acquisition and initial pre-processing, as well as ground-truthing activities. Responsibilities extend to managing the upkeep and calibration of field equipment, arranging transportation to and from sites, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
**To be successful you will need**:
- Demonstrated experience with field research trials, including the operation of sensors and complex machinery or equipment.
- Well-developed diagnostic and problem-solving skills, including de-bugging of equipment.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective and constructive relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders through the provision of operational and technical support.
- Experience in operating four-wheel drive vehicles and towing equipment on a trailer.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with industry and understand industry needs and drivers.
- Demonstrated high-level organisational and administrative skills, including a strong ability to prioritise, give excellent attention to detail and manage a volume of tasks efficiently and accurately.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative and promptly follow up on queries, or seek out information or assistance, as needed.
**Desirable characteristics**:
- A degree with at least four years subsequent relevant experience; or
- Extensive experience and management expertise in technical or administrative fields; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Civil Aviation Safety Authority remote pilot licence (or willingness to obtain)
