The Biorheology Research Laboratory within Griffith Health, leads internationally recognised work in the field of blood mechanobiology.
As a **Research Fellow in Mechanobiology**, you will be a primary contributor to a transdisciplinary program funded by the Australian Research Council (DP250104387): Unlocking the mechanobiological events in oxygen unloading by erythrocytes. Working alongside experts in blood mechanobiology (Prof Simmonds), glycoscience (Prof Kolarich), and cardiovascular physiology (A/Prof Peart), you’ll expand your research capacity in a cutting-edge environment.
Here’s how you’ll make it matter:
- Conduct experimental research using mechanobiological approaches to evaluate blood cell responses to mechanical stress.
- Design and use bespoke microfluidic and optical platforms for cellular interrogation.
- Work collaboratively across physiology, glycomics, biophysics, and clinical partners.
- Publish high-impact research and seek competitive external funding.
- Supervise junior researchers and contribute to research training and workshops.
This is a fixed-term (2.5 years), full time position based at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus university, you may be required to work across other locations.
Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.
**Salary Range**
The full time equivalent base salary will be Research Fellow Grade 1.4+ range $100,206 - $103,888 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $117,241 - $121,549 per annum.

You will also have:
- A PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as mechanobiology, microfluidics, biophysics, physiology, engineering, or glycomics.
- Experience with fabrication and use of bespoke microfluidic platforms (highly desirable).
- Strong capacity for independent and team-based interdisciplinary research.
- A developing publication record in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
