The School of Environment and Science offers programs in environmental, forensic, biomedical and general science which include options to combine data science with the common science majors to better equip our graduates for the digitally enabled workplace of the future.
The Research Fellow will join the Surfaces, Materials, and Catalysis research group to develop, characterise, and evaluate catalysts for the chemical upcycling of plastics as part of an ARC Discovery project. This prestigious project, “Advanced Chemical Recycling of Mixed Plastics for Monomer Recovery,” offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with international partners and Australian universities. The aim is to create innovative catalytic methods for recycling mixed plastics to recover their molecular building blocks.
The key responsibilities for this Research Fellow position include;
- Conduct laboratory, fieldwork, and research that contributes to the ARC Discovery project’s objectives on the chemical upcycling of plastics.
- Maintain a strong publication record in high-impact, international, esteemed peer-reviewed journals and pursue competitive funding.
- Contribute to group research projects and teaching activities, and manage the preparation of publications, presentations, and research reports.
- This is a fixed term (two year), full time position and will be primarily based at the Griffith University Gold Coast campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations._
- Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples._
**Salary Range**
The full time equivalent base salary will be Academic Research Fellow Grade 1 range $84,830 - $99,367 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $99,251 - $116,259 per annum.
**Qualifications**
To be successful within this role, you will have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
You will also have:
- Demonstrated experience in the wet-chemical synthesis of metal and/or oxide nanoparticle or porous catalysts, and hands-on experience in their characterisation by bulk and surface sensitive techniques including XRD, XPS, IR and porosimetry.
- Experience in the use of batch or flow microreactors for the liquid and/or gas phase catalytic conversion of hydrocarbons, and associated use of chromatographic methods for product analysis as well as experience in kinetic and mechanistic studies of heterogeneously catalysed organic transformations.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques and analytical methods relevant to catalysis and materials science.
- Ability to demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills and contribute to the positive culture and aspirations of the School and University.
- Experience in contributing to group research projects, mentoring students, and participating in teaching activities.
