**About the role**
Based at our **Newstead**office the** Policy Advisor**is responsible for providing support to the Manager Fatigue and Human Factors with regard to shaping and delivering legislative, strategic and policy priorities related to safety management, with a focus on fatigue and human factors, within the national heavy vehicle law
**Key responsibilities of this role are**:
Assist with developing and implementing policy advice and strategic planning in the area of Safety Management and Human Factors, including fatigue.
- Provide advice to support informed decision making on the evaluation of effectiveness of Safety Management systems (SMS) and Fatigue Risk Management Systems (FRMS).
- Develop and implement strategic heavy vehicle policy in alignment with the broader NHVR’s strategic plan.
- Undertake research on matters relevant to the role, analyse data, issues and trends, and prepare quality evidence-based policy proposals, briefings and correspondence that communicate findings, recommend policy positions and identify areas for reform.
- Proactively contribute to developing, implementing, evaluating, and continuously improving strategic and operational policy, procedures, guidelines and regulations relevant to the NHVR.
- Liaise and consult with government agencies (federal, state and local), industry and other stakeholders, including representing the NHVR on committees and working groups as required.

**To be successful in this role you will possess**
- Demonstrated ability to plan and manage projects or tasks to achieve specific objectives and deliver expected outcomes in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.
- Demonstrated written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate matters to desired outcomes with internal and external stakeholders at local, state and national levels.
- Demonstrated research, analysis and problem-solving skills, evidenced by the ability to frame issues clearly and precisely, including preparing reports, briefings, procedures and guidelines.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team of people to provide consistent, responsive and high-quality policy advice and project support.
