Position: Policy Officer
Location:
Position Type: Full Time, Permanent
Start Date: As soon as possible
At Language Disorder Australia, we believe that our people are key to extraordinary outcomes for students, families, and each other.
We're building a workplace where every team member feels supported, capable, and inspired to contribute. As part of our People and Culture team, the Policy Advisor plays a vital role in shaping clear, consistent, and values-aligned policies and procedures that support our mission and guide our operations.
This is a strategic and hands-on role focused on developing, maintaining, and communicating organisational policies that reflect best practice, meet legislative requirements, and enhance the employee experience. You'll work closely with leaders and stakeholders to ensure policies are practical, accessible, and embedded across the organisation.
If you're a thoughtful, detail-oriented professional who enjoys translating complex requirements into clear guidance, and you're passionate about creating meaningful frameworks that support people and culture this role is for you.
WHY LANGUAGE DISORDER AUSTRALIA
We are known for our innovative approach and multidisciplinary services, including education, therapy, and advocacy. Our team is driven by the conviction that every child can connect, belong, and achieve.
By joining us, you become an integral part of a passionate community that values Service, Passion, Excellence, Accountability, Kindness, Empowerment, and Respect.
What You Will Do
As our Policy Advisor, you will:
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of organisational policies and procedures using contemporary, evidence-informed approaches.
- Ensure all policies are aligned with legislative and regulatory requirements, and reflect our organisational values.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure policies are understood, accessible, and embedded in day-to-day practice.
- Maintain a centralised and well-organised policy library, ensuring documents are current and easy to navigate.
- Translate complex legal and operational requirements into clear, practical guidance for staff.
- Support leaders and teams in applying policies consistently and confidently.
- Identify opportunities to improve policy clarity, relevance, and impact.
- Prepare documentation and guidance to support internal education and onboarding around key policies.
What You Will Not Be Doing
- Working in isolation: you'll collaborate across teams to ensure policies are meaningful and well-integrated.
- Writing policies for the sake of it: your work will be purposeful, practical, and aligned with real organisational needs.
- Waiting for direction: you'll be trusted to take initiative and lead improvements.
- Doing the same thing every day: this role offers variety across policy creation, stakeholder engagement, and strategic input.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in law, business, human resources, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in policy development or strategic advisory roles.
- Strong understanding of legislative frameworks and policy best practices.
- Exceptional written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to translate complex information into clear, user-friendly documents.
- Experience working with diverse stakeholders to embed policy in practice.
- A proactive mindset and commitment to continuous improvement.
BENEFITS:
What can we give you in return for your passion:
- An exceptionally satisfying experience as you connect those that need support with the right support.
- Professional Development: Expand your skill set with opportunities for transdisciplinary development, external and internal growth opportunities.
- More take home pay: How can we offer this? A little-known fact is that as a Not-For Profit organisation, we can offer our employees Salary Packaging options to boost their take-home pay by 6% - 12% per annum (increase in the amount you take home and spend, rather than going to taxes).
- Annual salary increment progression PLUS yearly 3% salary increases as outlined in our Enterprise Agreement
- More extras: 17.5% annual leave loading, 1 day of paid Health Screening Leave, 14 weeks Paid Parental Leave, Discounts with Medibank Health Insurance, Novated Car Leasing.
