Cemetery Services Operator

Salary: $57,044 - $64,119 p.a. plus 11% Super

**About the role**
There are **permanent**, **full-time**, Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4.00pm positions available, working **38 hours** per week. These positions are located at the **Shoalhaven Memorial Gardens**, **Worrigee**.

**Duties**
Reporting directly to the Bereavement Services Coordinator, the focus of this position is to:

- Communicate effectively with Funeral Directors, Clergy, families and visiting members of the public.
- Ensure works are completed in compliance with statutory regulations and Council’s policies and procedures.
- Undertake routine or prescribed standard procedures under mínimal supervision or direction.
- Participate in continuous improvement of work practices by contributing to team meetings and discussions and sharing information and techniques with other staff members and management.
- Work cooperatively within a team environment to ensure the delivery of respectful, dignified and customer focused service.

***_Burials, Interments, or Immurements_**
- Excavate and refill graves using plant, machines and/or hand tools.
- Lower coffins into graves as per Burial Procedures
- Grave maintenance including management of subsidence.
- Placement of memorial plaques and markers at graves
- Placement of ashes into walls and place plaques
- Attend interments into vaults and crypts.
- Assist in exhumations of bodies from graves in accordance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Lift ashes from placements when required.

***_Cremations_**
- Ensure compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures during each step of process.
- Operate high temperature furnaces.
- Process the ashes or cremated human remains.

***_ Grounds and buildings maintenance_**
- Maintain cemetery grounds to required standard to ensure compliance with Cemetery licensing requirements.
- Mow, whipper snip and otherwise ensure tidy presentation of lawns or grass in all grounds under care and control of Council’s Bereavement Services Unit
- Perform gardening responsibilities including weeding, planting, pruning and other associated tasks using a variety of hand, powered, self-propelled and ride-on gardening equipment.
- Carry out minor asset, building and infrastructure maintenance, repair and construction as requested.

**Skills & Experience**

In order to be successful in the position, you will be/ possess:

- MR Drivers Licence
- Demonstrated experience operating excavator and/or skid steer
- Current NSW WorkCover accredited First Aid Certificate
- Current NSW WorkCover Construction Induction Certificate (White Card)
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to WHS principles and practices
- Ability and willingness to undertake physical manual work
- Demonstrated effective time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to balance competing workloads and deliver within deadlines
- Proof of Australian residency or citizenship, or authority to work in Australia (visa)

Council requires applicants for this position to undergo a National Criminal History Check during the recruitment process. This check will be at the expense of Council.
