Our client is the largest integrated construction materials company in Australia, producing and selling a broad range of construction materials, including quarry products, cement, concrete, asphalt and recycled materials. Employing circa 9,100 employees and contractors nationally, their extensive footprint includes some 356 operating sites nationally.

Today they are seeking to appoint a General Manager Operations Asphalt. As a senior executive in their Asphalt Leadership team, this position oversees all 11 operational sites across Vic, SA &WA with revenue circa $300m. The General Manager Operations will take the lead in setting the vision and future success factors to ensure team engagement, safety, delivery of customer promises & business profitability. With a contracting operations focus, they will proactively lead the Asphalt business P&L and sales responsibilities through a safe and efficient manner, whilst continuing to deliver to their growth and expansion strategies for the business - resulting in consistently delivering strong financial performance, meeting agreed targets and standards.

**Your key duties and responsibilities will include**:

- **_Safety & Compliance_**
- end to end responsibility, cultivating a safety culture to deliver Zero Harm performance while understanding and meeting compliance obligations for reporting, IR, Health, Safety, Welfare and Environment, Statutory (EPA & PIRSA) compliance.
- **_Financial Management_**
- Proactively engaging with functional leaders and others to secure the long-term growth vision for all markets, maximizing on profitability opportunity through effective management of costs and overheads.
- Participate and implement Strategies and KPI’s, including the development and implementation of action plans that enhance operating efficiencies and reduce costs to maintain and improve market share.
- Tender oversight, and the proactive identification of new revenue streams (ideal)

**_Leadership: _**_(Player/Coach)_**
- Build organisational capability through the management and development of a collaborative, motivated team who are engaged in their vision.
- Drive for continuous business performance improvement while never compromising on service
- Identify industry best practice for operations and implement approved strategies for the optimum performance
- Creating an environment that encourages employee involvement at all levels
- Providing visible ‘felt’ leadership, whilst ensuring clarity of messaging to all levels.
- Take on a leadership role in customer engagement and management - 20% of your week

**_Strategy:_**
- Develop and implement strategic plans through the identification, development with stakeholders and implementation realising expected operational outcomes.
- Ensure stagey targets the optimisation of PAF ratios and shareholder value
- Manage contract risk through pre-tender and contract review with appropriate training given as required.
- Maintain relationships in the market and community, exploring and evaluating opportunities
- Ensure Industrial Relations strategy is aligned to the advancement of both business units and regional business goals and objectives

**_ Operational:_**
- Full compliance with all safe working practices and procedures
- Ensure that all products and services consistently meet their quality standards
- Proactively implement their best practices, engaging with all levels of employees in this regard and ensures personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
- Continuously liaise with sales teams to addresses customer needs by developing & implementing timely business solutions.
- Provide a resilient cost management focus throughout the Asphalt business.

**What you will bring to this role**:

- A min 10 years’ experience leading an operations business at a senior level
- Hands on Industrial Services, Manufacturing, Civil Construction and/ or Asphalt industries experience
- High degree of acumen in growing a business and successful tendering
- Project & Contract management
- Significant business development & client relationship development and management expertise
- Strategic commercial acumen & judgement - including a strategic mindset for growth
- Demonstrated success managing complex geographies and environments
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Science, Commerce, Business or similar
- Advanced qualification(s) in management, engineering, or business highly desirable
- Membership, Certification and qualifications in the Asphalt related discipline highly regarded
- Experience in financial management,
