**Division Responsibilities**

The Health Economics and Research Division (HERD) is responsible for ensuring the health
evaluation, innovation, and use of data to develop and implement integrated, evidence
based health policies. A key priority for the Division is the implementation of the Medical

Research Future Fund 10-year investment plan and Biomedical Translation Fund. The
Division continues to develop the Department's strategic economic outlook across
Australia's health system and providing specialised modelling, reliable forward estimates
and costings for all major Commonwealth health and aged care programs. The Division is
also responsible for strengthening the Department's evidence-based approach and
enhancing our ability to understand and analyse data collected of the complex and data rich
system we oversee.

**Branch Responsibilities**

The Health and Medical Research Office (HMRO) has policy responsibility for
Commonwealth health and medical research initiatives to improve patient care, improve
the efficiency and effectiveness of the health system, and boost economic growth. This
includes the implementation and operation of the Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF),
the Biomedical Translation Fund (BTF) and input into whole-of-Government initiatives to
stimulate science and innovation and resulting research translation and commercialisation
to improve health and drive economic growth. The Branch monitors developments,
discoveries and new technologies emerging from health and medical research and
collaborates across government portfolios, including with the National Health and Medical
Research Council (NHMRC), Department of Industry, Science and Resources, AusIndusty,
Department of Education, and stakeholders to promote knowledge exchange and
translation and evidence-based policy development.

**Section Responsibilities**

The Executive Section:

- provides executive support to the HMRO CEO and the HMRO branch more broadly,

including coordination of both high level and routine input requests
- supports branch business and risk planning
- coordinates staff training and development
- works closely with internal and external stakeholders to provide this support.

**Key Responsibilities**

The Executive Officer, Executive Section, will be responsible for providing a high level of
strategic support to the Health and Medical Research Office (HMRO) Chief Executive Officer
(CEO) and the HMRO more broadly, including:

- working closely and collaboratively with the HMRO CEO and HMRO staff to ensure

they remain informed and aware of issues requiring attention and that priority
matters are actioned appropriately;
- coordinating complex input and parliamentary document requests;
- preparing, coordinating and proofing complex and/or sensitive correspondence,

corporate documentation, submissions, speeches, talking points, briefing papers and
other strategic communication and correspondence;
- undertaking work activities such as business planning, with an awareness of the

possible impact on strategic or operational outcomes for HMRO;
- providing leadership to the executive support team to deliver results by motivating,

guiding and developing, and identifying opportunities to enhance team
performance;
- establishing and maintaining productive working relationships and providing a high

level of service to:
o Senior Executive staff in the HMRO and Department
- Ministerial and Parliamentary Services and the Ministers’ Offices
- staff at all levels across the branch, division and department; and
- senior officers in external agencies and organisations;
- working as a team with other Executive Support Staff and Executive staff across the

division, group and department.
