**About the Role**
Located in Australia's leading biomedical research hub and based within the Translational Neurobiology and Systems Neuropsychiatry group. This position will analyse, compare and visualise brain neuroimaging data derived from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, with the aim of understanding how a range of biological and environmental factors influence and interact with brain developmental processes to confer risk for mental illness. To achieve this, the Research Fellow will work on several projects being led by the Translational Neurobiology group as well as publicly available datasets such as the UK Biobank and Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development study.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Participating in research independently and as a member of a collaborative research team.
- Producing high quality publications arising from scholarship and research.
- Providing effective training of research support staff.

**Who We Are Looking For**
You should exhibit a strong commitment and enthusiasm to forge an academic research career path. Additionally, you should possess a good level of statistical and programming skills, with experience in R, MATLAB, or similar computing environments, as well as proficiency in various neuroimaging and computing software such as FSL, Freesurfer, and SPM. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective research collaboration and engagement. Moreover, you should have experience in taking initiative and working with mínimal supervision to accomplish project objectives.

You will also have:

- A PhD in neuroscience or commensurate discipline.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Track record of peer reviewed publications (or equivalent).

**Your New Team - The Melbourne Neuropsychiatry Centre (MNC)**

The MNC is a Centre within the Department of Psychiatry and provides research and clinical leadership in neuropsychiatry. It facilitates collaborative research activity with the neuroscientific community and supports teaching in the biological aspects of psychiatry, involving supervision of doctoral, postdoctoral, honours and master students both local and international.

The MNC works in collaboration with the North Western Mental Health Program, the Adult Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit, Sunshine Hospital, the Neuropsychiatry Unit at Royal Melbourne Hospital and the National Neuroscience Facility, researching into serious mental illness, in particular the areas of cognition and neuroimaging, and the management of treatment resistant schizophrenia patients.

The MNC aims to ensure that people suffering from neuropsychiatric disorders benefit from cutting edge research such that will improve management and treatment outcomes. Research also examines the effect of these disorders on the brain and how such changes might be prevented.
