**The Role**
The Department of Defence recognises that climate change is a national security issue. Defence is taking action to address the challenges of climate change and to reduce the organisation’s impact on the environment.
By 2030, Defence is committed to reducing its emissions by 43% on 2005 levels, and to achieve Net Zero by 2050.Defence is looking for energetic and resilient people who are willing to work collaboratively to take on a large challenge, to drive significant change, and to make a real difference.
Defence is looking to fill roles at EL1 level in the Directorate of Sustainability, Emissions and Net Zero and the Directorate of Clean Energy Transition, with other roles to be filled as required.
Roles in both Directorates involve extensive collaboration and stakeholder engagement across Defence and Australian Government agencies, as well as working with industry and international partners. Expertise and experience in contract and program management, communications, policy development, governance and reporting, are highly applicable.
**About our Team**
Multiple positions are to be filled at the Assistant Director (EL1) level in the Environment and Engineering Branch. These include positions in the Directorate of Sustainability, Emissions and Net Zero (DSENZ) and the Directorate of Clean Energy Transition (DCET), as well as elsewhere in the Branch, as required. A merit pool will be formed for this purpose.
DSENZ is responsible for developing sustainability and emissions policy for Defence and is the lead on the Defence Net Zero Strategy. The scope of work includes circular economy and waste, emissions data collection and reporting, climate risk modelling and impact assessment on the Defence estate, and monitoring and oversight of implementation of the Defence Net Zero Strategy.
DCET is responsible for managing projects and developing energy policy in support of renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives across Defence, and consistent with the implementation plan of the Net Zero Strategy.
- Experience in managing multidisciplinary teams, including setting clear performance standards, managing workloads, and mentoring and developing team members.

- Well-developed interpersonal skills to liaise, collaborate, and build productive stakeholder relationships, including engaging with executive level staff.
